Chung Yong Taekwondo - the Korean Martial Art
Chung Yong Taekwondo was formed in 1982 with Martial Arts clubs in Glasgow and London under the instruction of Master William Rose.
Chung Yong prides it's self of its high standards of both traditional Taekwondo and competition sparring. With clubs for adults and children, Chung Young not only has a great history but a great future ahead as well.
The Name "Chung Yong" is taken from a branch of the Korean special forces and translates into "Blue Dragon".
How To JoinIf you wish to start Taekwondo or are an existing Martial Arts practitioner who has moved into the area and is now looking for somewhere to train, simply go to the Taekwondo Clubs section of this web site and find the closest club to you. After that all you need to do is turn up ready to train. Initially you can train in tracksuit bottoms and a plain white t-shirt until you are ready to invest in a Taekwondo uniform (the Korean for which is "dobok").
Please feel free to contact our instructors if you have any further questions or concerns about joining. Chung Yong Taekwondo have classes to suit all ages grades and abilities. Your current fitness level is not important so do not let this stop you from coming. Taekwondo training will improve your fitness regardless of what level you are currently at. Contact information for our various instructors is on each clubs' individual page.
Taekwondo is a complete martial art encompassing self defence, fitness, traditional training, flexibility, mental discipline and competition sparring. Whether you are interested in one or many of these aspects of Taekwondo, Chung Yongs' instructors can guide you towards your goal.
Some of our instructors in the South London area are available for local schools looking to add a martial art to their sporting curriculum. If you're a teacher who would like Taekwondo training made available at your school please contact Cathy Gibbs on 0208 642 5136 or by using the contact page.
Progression
All students begin their Taekwondo training with a White Belt. In order to progress to a higher grade and belt (Taekwondo coloured belts are referred to as Kup Grades) you will need to train for a certain length of time. Your instructor will tell you when you are ready to grade.
Grading system at Chung Yong
White Belt (10th Kup)
Yellow Belt (8th Kup)
Green Belt (6th Kup)
Blue Belt (4th Kup)
Red Belt (2nd Kup)
Black Belt (1st Dan)
Odd numbered Kup grades are indicated with a tag, so 9th Kup would wear Yellow Tags on the tips of their White Belt and so on up to 1st Kup (Red Belt with Black Tags). A grading examination must be passed to move up to each new belt or tag.
