Three Step Sparring
Three Step Sparring is a set of pre arranged movements that form part of the Chung Yong Taekwondo grading syllabus. Once you have achieved your yellow belt (8th Kup) you will be required to learn Three Step Sparring (1 to 3) to progress further. Once you have achieved your yellow belt – green tag (7th Kup) you will be required to learn Three Step Sparring (4 to 6) to progress further.
All routines are for right side only, reverse for left side.
Inner and outer forearm descriptions taken from arm hanging at side with palm back. To work out which block I am describing put the correct part of the arm on the stated side of the punch.
Attack 1 to 5
- Ready position
- Right leg back, long stance, left arm low block.
- Right leg forwards, long stance, right arm middle punch.
- Left leg forwards, long stance, left arm middle punch.
- Right leg forwards, long stance, right arm middle punch.
- Bring left foot to right foot and return to Ready Position.
Defence 1
- Ready position.
- Right leg back, long stance, left arm outer forearm middle block. (To outside of punch)
- Left leg back, long stance, right arm outer forearm middle block. (To outside of punch)
- Right leg back, long stance, left arm outer forearm middle block. (To outside of punch)
- Slide left leg forwards, right arm punch to floating ribs.
- Bring left foot to right foot and return to Ready Position.
Defence 2
- Ready position.
- Left leg back, long stance, right arm outer forearm middle block. (To inside of punch)
- Right leg back, long stance, left arm outer forearm middle block. (To inside of punch)
- Left leg back, long stance, right arm outer forearm middle block. (To inside of punch)
- Right leg across and in, sitting stance, right arm elbow to body. (Left hand supports right fist.)
- Bring right foot to left foot and return to Ready Position.
Defence 3
- Ready position.
- Right leg back, long stance, left arm outer forearm middle block. (To inside of punch)
- Left leg back, long stance, right arm outer forearm middle block. (To inside of punch)
- Right leg back and to the side, left leg front kick land forwards long stance, double punch. (left – rignt)
- Left foot steps back then bring right foot to left foot and return to Ready Position Ready Position.
Defence 4
- Ready Position.
- Right leg back, back stance, left arm outer forearm middle block. (To outside of punch)
- Left leg back, back stance, right arm outer forearm middle block. (To outside of punch)
- Right leg back and to the side, left leg side kick land back guard and block in back stance.
- Left foot steps over then bring right foot to left foot and return to Ready Position.
Defence 5
- Ready position.
- Left leg back, back stance, right arm inner forearm middle block. (To outside of punch)
- Right leg back, back stance, left arm inner forearm middle block. (To outside of punch)
- Left leg to the side, right leg turning kick under arm to body, pull back knife hand guard and block, back stance.
- Right foot steps over then bring left foot to right foot and return to Ready Position.
Attack 6
- Ready position.
- Right leg back, long stance, left arm low block.
- Right leg forwards, long stance, right arm high punch.
- Left leg forwards, long stance, left arm high punch.
- Right leg forwards, long stance, right arm high punch.
- Bring left foot to right foot and return to Ready Position.
Defence 6
- Ready position.
- Right leg back, long stance, left arm knife hand upper block.
- Left leg back, long stance, right arm knife hand upper block.
- Right leg back, long stance, left arm knife hand upper block.
- Slide left leg forwards, right arm palm heel strike chin.
- Bring left foot to right foot and return to Ready Position.
